Irene Mwendwa is a Capacity Building Officer at the African Women’s Development and Communication Network (FEMNET) since August 2018. She supports through thought leadership in its programs and interventions with partner, staff and board engagement, strategy implementation and capacity development. At FEMNET she also leads the work and engagement at the Africa Human Rights Systems namely the Africa Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR). Before joining FEMNET, Irene was at the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) under the Electoral Governance Department where she coordinated the celebrated Kura Yangu Sauti Yangu Coalition bringing together leading human rights civil society actors in the country to call for fair and credible elections and the upholding of civil and political rights. She brings substantial project and operations management and coalition strengthening experience where she has experience in building the operations systems for coalitions; programmatic result management, operational compliance and quality assurance for an organisation and movement. She attained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the Kenyatta University- Kenya in 2015. Irene has Internation Election Observation training from the University of Venice, Italy 2017. Irene was elected as an Advisory Board Member for Inua Kike in December 2019 where she supports governance and oversight for the organisation.
